How to liberate farmers' hands and achieve mechanization and intelligence in all aspects of agricultural production is the key to smart agriculture.
What is smart agriculture?
Smart agriculture can be summarized into four aspects: digital perception, intelligent decision-making, intelligent management, and precise operations. More than a decade ago, a team from South China Agricultural University developed a wireless sensor network for measuring the height of rice paddy water layers and soil moisture content. Through it, the height of the water layer and soil moisture content in the paddy field can be known at any time, and it can determine whether the paddy field is deficient or not, and whether irrigation is needed, thereby achieving automatic measurement and irrigation of the water situation in the paddy field. This is digital perception technology.
Technologies such as satellites, drones, and ground instruments can achieve the second stage of smart agriculture - intelligent decision-making. For example, they can make intelligent decisions on field management plans based on crop growth and pest and disease information, including irrigation and drainage, fertilization, pesticide application, etc; Based on crop growth and local weather conditions, intelligent decision-making for harvest plans can be made, including harvest time, harvest method, etc. In the intelligent management process, it is possible to remotely monitor the location, progress, and quality of agricultural machinery operations.
Precision operations include plowing, planting, field management, harvesting, and drying. CAAMS has developed a large intelligent variable spray, which can realize automatic weed identification and precise feedback control of spray volume. In addition, the rice drying system developed by South China Agricultural University can reduce the moisture content of 14 tons of rice from 28% to 13.6% per hour, with a cost of only 15 yuan per ton, which is cheaper than manual drying of rice.
What is the connection between unmanned farms and smart agriculture?
Unmanned farms are an important way to achieve smart agriculture. Based on the self-developed Beidou satellite navigation system intelligent agricultural machinery equipment with independent intellectual property rights over the past 10 years, the rice unmanned farm can achieve the intelligence and intelligence of the entire process of "cultivation, planting, management, and harvesting". It has achieved fully automatic transfer operations in the hangar field, self obstacle avoidance and abnormal parking to ensure safety, real-time monitoring of crop growth process, and intelligent decision-making and precise operation without human intervention.
With the continuous optimization and maturity of key technologies, unmanned farms have gained recognition from farmers and society. We also look forward to more advanced technologies being combined with agricultural production to further develop unmanned farms, help China's agriculture achieve sustainable development and higher levels of modernization, and contribute to the construction of an agricultural powerhouse.
